The Chinese government has taken steps to make sure that all students will need a visa, regardless of the duration of their study programs. The X1 and X2 visas are available to international students, depending on whether they will be in China for more than 180 days. We have simplified the application process for you.

X1 Chinese Student Visas

If you intend to study in China for more than 180 days, you will need to apply for an X1 visa.

You will need the following:

  • During your entire stay in China, you must have a valid passport.
  • The visa application form with a photograph.
  • JW201 or JW202, and a photocopy of your original admission letter.
  • Your university will issue you a JW201 or JW202 letter based on the types of scholarships you receive. China’s government knows which university will assign you, and the university will tell you what form to fill out.
