Using CompuServe travel: A personal experienc

I’ve been using CompuServe as a travel aid for years. I’ve even attempted to use CompuServe while on a trip to the U.K.—and succeeded! So I guess you might call me an old hand at online travel.
Here’s just one example of how I’ve personally used CompuServe while traveling. I go to San Diego several times a year; I like to think of San Diego as my home-away-from-home. (The weather’s perfect all year ’round; everyone should go there at least once.) For my last trip, I decided to rely heavily on CompuServe for my pre-travel activities.

First, I used CompuServe’s Web browser to search for hotels in the La Jolla area—that’s where I like to stay. Then I started hanging out in the Califor¬nia Forum’s San Diego section, and I even asked some of the locals to tell me which hotel was best. Finally, I used the forum to find out what special events were happening in San Diego during my trip.

When I had decided on a hotel, I used eaasySABRE to take care of my car rental, as well as my hotel and plane reservations. Then, for about a week before my trip, I used CompuServe to find out what the weather was like in San Diego so I could pack appropriately.

Finally, once I got to my hotel in San Diego, I plugged in my portable computer and logged in to the local CompuServe node (having retrieved the San Diego access number before I left home). So, even though I was on vacation, I could keep track of the world at large through daily CompuServe sessions.

As you can see, I can vouch for how helpful CompuServe can be when planning a tip. If I hadn’t used CompuServe, it would’ve been harder to find all the information I needed
and to make the right decisions. Instead, I relied on CompuServe and had a good time on my vacation!
