Using CSNav to download files

So far, I’ve shown you how to use CSNav to manage forum messages and e-mail. Although you can also use CSNav to find and retrieve forum files, I don’t always recommend it.
It’s actually a little quicker to use the normal CompuServe software to find and download specific files. And it’s a lot quicker to use CompuServe CD’s file finder to perform this operation. If you have CompuServe CD, I recommend that you use it to find and download your files. If you don’t have CompuServe CD, use CompuServe 3.0 and the PC File Finder (GO PCFF).

The reason I don’t recommend CSNav is that when you use CSNav to search for files, you have to edit your script to turn on the Search Library Operation on the first pass. And because you must do this one forum library at a time, you can’t search multiple forums. This decreases the likelihood that you’ll find the file you’re looking for on the first pass, and it may take several passes to find the file you’re looking for. (And even though you could also download the entire file list from any given forum library and then search the abstract list while offline, the long download time needed for the abstracts makes this method inefficient as well.)

Using CSNav to download a specific file is effective and efficient only if you know the file’s exact name and forum location. If you’re search¬ing for files, I recommend that you forget CSNav and use the other tools you have at your disposal.

Finally, make sure that you always have the most up-to-date list of forum sections. Expand the Forum Options item and click the first (left) box next to Update section names.

Repeat these steps for every service in your script.

If you want to delete an item from the Script Editor window, select the item, click the right mouse button, and choose Delete from the pop-up menu.

When you’re done, you have a completed script and you’re ready to run. Now
let’s see how you send CSNav online to do your bidding!
