What is my e-mail address?
Your CompuServe membership number is your email address. Therefore, if your address is 12345,1234, another CompuServe member who wants to send you e-mail simply addresses it to 12345,1234. However, if someone from the Internet or another online service wants to send you e-mail, that person must replace the comma with a “dot” and add @compuserve.com to the end. So your address would look like this: [email protected]
While your member ID is your standard e-mail address (and you’ll always receive e-mail sent to this address), CompuServe does let you change your e-mail address to something that’s easier to remember. To create what CompuServe calls a Personal Address, GO IVIAILCENTER to enter CompuServe’s main Mail Center, click the Mail Manager button, and select Pre-Register Personal Address from the next screen. Read the instructions there and click the Proceed button. Follow the instructions to create your own Personal Address, and you’re ready to go.
Your Personal Address must contain at least 2 but no more than 32 characters, which can include uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and the underscore character. Your address must contain at least one letter, and it cannot contain the same character more than four times in a row. Personal Addresses are limited; if someone else has already claimed the address you want, you’ll have to choose another one.
Once you have a Personal Address, you can receive mail addressed to either your Personal Address or your original CompuServe member ID e-mail address.
